New Delhi: Ahead of the forthcoming festive season, Flipkart is scaling employment opportunities, infrastructure, and tech deployments across 28 states with the creation of over 2.2 lakh additional seasonal job opportunities, expanded last-mile reach, and inclusive hiring across Tier 2 and 3 cities, the e-commerce giant said on Monday. Employment opportunities have been created across the supply chain, logistics, and last-mile delivery roles, especially in Tier 2 and 3 cities. The hiring is being done ahead of ‘The Big Billion Days’, Flipkart’s annual comprehensive discounted sales event. According to the company, 15 per cent of new hires are first-time workforce entrants; roles include pickers, packers, sorters, and delivery executives, and there is a significant increase in hiring of women, PwDs and LGBTQIA+ associates compared to last year. “At Flipkart, The Big Billion Days is a celebration of scale, speed, and shared progress. This year, we have strengthened our capabilities ahead of the festive season, focusing on building an inclusive workforce, expanding our supply chain people network, and creating more inclusive job opportunities in the ecosystem, backed by technology and sustainable practices,” said Seema Nair, CHRO at Flipkart. New Delhi: Manipur is actively laying the groundwork for the integration of artificial intelligence in areas such as legal case management and GIS-based habitation mapping of villages, said Thokchom Kiran Kumar, Secretary (IT) in the Manipur government, underscoring the critical importance of AI capacity-building as a foundational step towards enhancing governance within the state. These initiatives aim to facilitate more efficient, transparent, and citizen-centric service delivery, he said an an event in Imphal, said Ministry of Electronics & IT in a statement on Sunday. To accelerate the integration of artificial intelligence in governance, the Department of Information Technology (DIT), Manipur, in partnership with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), under MeitY, convened a two-day capacity-building workshop on “AI for Good Governance”. New Delhi: PC demand in the consumer segment remained strong across both online and offline channels in India, as the PC market grew 5.7 per cent (on-year) in the January-June period, shipping 6.8 million units, according to a new report. According to Bharath Shenoy, research manager, IDC India and South Asia, H1 2025 posted YoY growth, supported by strategic inventory correction. “The focus remained on maintaining leaner inventory to make room for fresh stock from July, ahead of the Independence Day sales in August and the major festive season that is expected to commence by late September,” he mentioned in an IDC report. Meanwhile, the commercial PC segment grew 9.5 per cent in April-June period, driven by strong enterprise demand, which surged 21.2 per cent YoY in the quarter and 26.4 per cent YoY in H1 2025. The etail channel maintained its growth trajectory, rising 1.6 per cent YoY in Q2 2025 and 11.7 per cent YoY in 1H25, reflecting steady online demand, said the report. TikTok Layoffs: TikTok, one of the most popular short-format video-sharing platforms, which gained popularity worldwide, has informed employees that it plans to lay off hundreds of London-based staff from its content moderation and security teams, according to a Financial Times report. The move comes amid growing efforts to automate much of the workflow using artificial intelligence. According to TikTok, the plan would see work moved to its other offices in Europe as it invests in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to scale up its moderation. The company has sent an email on Friday informing employees that moderation and quality assurance tasks may no longer be managed from London. The decision comes in the wake of the Online Safety Act 2023 implementation, raising concerns about diminished human oversight in monitoring harmful and illegal content. With a workforce of over 2,500 in the UK, the company is anticipated to cut “several hundred” jobs both domestically and across South and Southeast Asia. A town-hall meeting was subsequently held with affected employees to discuss the way forward. New Delhi: ChatGPT maker OpenAI has warned against unauthorised opportunities to gain exposure to the company through a variety of means, including special purpose vehicles (SPVs). In a blog post, the US-based company said that all OpenAI equity is subject to transfer restrictions. “This means that OpenAI equity cannot be directly or indirectly transferred unless the seller first obtains OpenAI’s written consent. Any attempted transfer — which includes any pledge, encumbrance or other similar disposition — that does not follow this requirement is void,” it noted. “We are aware of firms that market unauthorised opportunities to gain exposure to OpenAI through a variety of means, including sales of OpenAI equity; investments in SPVs that own OpenAI equity; tokenised interests in OpenAI equity or an SPV holding OpenAI equity; and “forward” contracts and other forms of purported economic interests,” the company informed. It urges users to be careful if they are contacted by a firm that purports to have access to OpenAI, including through the sale of an SPV interest with exposure to OpenAI equity. Wedding Card Scam On WhatsApp: It looks amazing and sweet when you receive a wedding invite on WhatsApp with the caption, ‘Welcome, shadi mein zarur aaiye.’ Unfortunately, a seemingly innocent digital wedding invitation on WhatsApp cost a government employee from Maharashtra’s Hingoli district nearly Rs 1,90,000 after falling prey to a cyber fraud. According to an NDTV report, the victim received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number, inviting them to a wedding scheduled for August 30. The message read: ‘Welcome. Shadi mein zarur aaiye (Do come to the wedding). 30/08/2025. Love is the master key that opens the gate of happiness.’ However, the so-called wedding card was actually an Android Application Package (APK) file, designed to hack into users’ phones and steal sensitive data. The moment the victim tapped on the file, cybercriminals gained access to the phone. In no time, Rs 1.9 lakh was stolen from the account. A case has been registered against an unidentified person at the Hingoli police station and the cyber cell.
