New Delhi: The government will explore the possibility of launching a dedicated satellite or acquiring a transponder to strengthen India’s maritime governance and port management infrastructure, said Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal. The ministry should plan to launch a satellite of our own or acquire a dedicated transponder for the Indian maritime sector, he added. “This will strengthen India’s coastal and port management infrastructure through advanced space-based solutions,” Sonowal said. According to the minister, the proposed system would provide exclusive coverage for Indian coastal waters, inland waterways and port regions, integrating with national maritime databases to offer real-time monitoring of vessel traffic, navigational safety and port operations. Add Zee News as a Preferred Source “This will help in enhanced vessel traffic monitoring, real-time ship tracking across India’s coastline and EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone), early identification of congestion and improved navigational safety. It will also improve preparedness for search-and-rescue, pollution control and disaster management, while reducing dependence on foreign navigation systems and supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Sonowal highlighted. The minister said the country has emerged as a global leader in science and technology. “India has made remarkable progress as a nation in science and technology and has built one of the world’s most respected and efficient space programmes,” he noted. Sonowal recalled India’s journey in space research, its quest of knowledge for the betterment of humanity. “We also launched Aditya-L1 in 2023, India’s first solar observatory to study the sun. More recently, Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla became the first Indian to complete a mission to the International Space Station. Soon, thanks to the hard work of our scientists, India will launch the Gaganyaan mission and build its own space station,” the minister said. Under the visionary leadership of PM Modi, India’s space programme has made remarkable progress in addressing diverse challenges and unlocking new frontiers of opportunity.
Real-Money Games Ban Affects: Payment Gateways May Face Rs 3,0000 Crore Hit In Transaction Volumes | Technology News
New Delhi: The annual revenue growth of payment gateway firms operating in India is expected to dip by as much as 15 per cent following the suspension of real-money gaming (RMG) operations post the government brought new laws barring e-sports companies from offering such games. Following the development, the digital transaction volumes in the country may shrink by at least Rs 30,000 crore this year. According to media reports, the sharpest impact will be felt by smaller, gaming-focused payment players, while larger gateways may see only a partial dent thanks to their diversified portfolios. Nearly 80 per cent of the impacted transactions would have been processed via the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in any other scenario. According to a business executive with knowledge of the situation, this directly affects UPI’s monthly transaction volumes by about 2 per cent and its total value by about 0.5 per cent. Add Zee News as a Preferred Source The scope of digital payments linked to gaming is demonstrated by data from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). According to reports, 35.1 crore payments, or 2.8 per cent of the platform’s total volume, were made in digital Goods. Games category in July alone, totalling Rs 10,077 crore in transactions, or 1.38 per cent of UPI’s monthly value. It is anticipated that UPI will lose approximately 25 crore transactions each month, valued at approximately Rs 5,040 crore, as a result of the ban. Major payment gateways with exposure to the RMG industry, including Razorpay, PayU, and Cashfree, would see pressure on their earnings. However, compared to niche companies that only serve the gaming industry, the fallout is probably going to be less severe because of their substantial presence in other industries. With an estimated value of $25 billion, India’s online real-money gaming sector brings in over Rs 31,000 crore annually and pays nearly Rs 20,000 crore in taxes. As a result, the regulatory crackdown has broad ramifications for the entire digital payments ecosystem in addition to gaming companies. Meanwhile, the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, which imposes extensive limitations on money-based online gaming platforms in India, was approved by President Droupadi Murmu, a day after the Parliament passed it. Those who provide such services face severe penalties under the new law, which include fines of up to Rs 1 crore and imprisonment of up to three years.

India Surpassed China In Smartphone Exports To US | Technology News
New Delhi: India has overtaken China in smartphone exports to the United States, marking a major milestone in the country’s manufacturing journey, according to a social media post by PIB citing research firm Canalys. As per the post, schemes such as Make in India and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) have played a key role in reshaping the electronics sector. It said, “As a result of schemes like Make in India and PLI, India is now moving at a new pace in those industrial sectors in which it was never even considered a key manufacturer before. According to a report by research firm Canalys, in the second quarter of this calendar year, i.e., April-June, India has also overtaken China in terms of smartphones exported to the US.” The post states that the share of Made in India smartphones in US imports climbed to 44 per cent during April-June 2025, a sharp rise from 13 per cent in the same quarter of 2024. At the same time, China’s share dropped from 61 per cent a year earlier to just 25 per cent in the same period. This uptick in smartphone exports is supported by a decade-long transformation of India’s electronics industry. In the previous month, the Ministry of Electronics & IT detailed the growth trajectory in a release, showcasing that between 2014-15 and 2024-25, India’s electronics and mobile manufacturing sector has witnessed a notable transformation. Exports too saw a dramatic jump, rising from Rs. 38,000 crore to Rs. 3.27 lakh crore in the same period. Production of mobile phones itself shot up from Rs. 18,000 crore to Rs. 5.45 lakh crore, while exports grew from Rs. 1,500 crore to Rs. 2 lakh crore, recording a 127-fold surge. The production of electronic goods surged from Rs. 1.9 lakh crore in 2014-15 to Rs. 11.3 lakh crore in 2024-25, marking a sixfold increase. The ministry further revealed that the mobile manufacturing ecosystem grew exponentially, with the number of production units expanding from just two in 2014-15 to 300 by 2024-25, a 150-fold rise. As per the release, another crucial aspect of this transformation is India’s reduced reliance on imports. In 2014-15, imported phones accounted for 75 per cent of total demand. By 2024-25, this dependency had nearly vanished, standing at just 0.02 per cent.
