By the end of that year, half of the global population outside mainland China is expected to be covered. Mobile network data traffic rose 20 per cent between Q3 2024 and Q3 2025, driven mainly by India and China. By 2025, 5G networks will handle 43 per cent of all mobile data, a number expected to jump to 83 per cent by 2031. Fixed Wireless Access continues to grow as a major 5G use case. The EMR estimates that 1.4 billion people will be connected through FWA by 2031, with 90 per cent of these users on 5G networks. Currently, 159 service providers already offer 5G-based FWA services, representing about 65 per cent of all FWA operators worldwide, the report said.

TRAI Orders Mandatory Adoption Of 1600-Series Numbers By Banks, Fin Services, Insurance Firms
New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday issued a direction mandating the last dates by which adoption of the ‘1600’ numbering series should be completed by entities in the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector, and government organisations to clearly distinguish their service and transactional calls from other commercial communications. The direction has been issued with the objective of curbing spam, and preventing fraudulent activities perpetrated through voice calls. In response to TRAI’s regulatory initiative, the ‘1600’ numbering series has been assigned by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for allocation to entities in the Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector, regulated by the RBI, SEBI, and Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) and Government organisations. The series will enable citizens to reliably identify legitimate calls originating from regulated financial institutions, an official statement said. Add Zee News as a Preferred Source The directive states that the adoption of ‘1600’ numbering series for all Mutual Funds and Asset Management Companies (AMCs) shall be completed by February 15, 2026. In the case of Qualified Stockbrokers (QSBs) the adoption of ‘1600’ numbering series shall be completed by March 15, 2026. For the time being, other SEBI-registered intermediaries may voluntarily migrate to the 1600-series after verification of their registration details, the directive states. Commercial banks (including Public Sector Banks, Private Sector Banks, and Foreign Banks) will have to adopt the 1600 series by January 1, 2026. Large NBFCs (asset size above Rs 5,000 crore), Payments Banks, and Small Finance Banks will have to onboard by February 1, 2026 while the remaining NBFCs, Co-operative Banks, Regional Rural Banks, and smaller entities shall onboard by March 1, 2026, the directive states. Central record keeping agencies and Pension Fund Managers shall onboard by February 15, 2026. The matter of mandating last date for adoption of 1600 series by the entities in the insurance sector is under discussion with IRDAI, and will be notified subsequently, the official statement said. The structured and time-bound adoption of the 1600-series is expected to significantly improve consumer safety and help curb impersonation-based financial frauds perpetrated through voice calls. After the assignment of the series and allocation of numbering resources to the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), TRAI has regularly engaged with TSPs and the BFSI sector regulators for adoption of 1600 series by BFSI sector entities. Consequent to these efforts, about 485 entities have already adopted 1600 series, subscribing to a total of over 2800 numbers, the statement said. Based on TRAI’s interactions with stakeholders, it was considered that time is now ripe to mandate time-bound completion of the exercise so that entities continuing to use standard 10-digit numbers for service and transactional calls, also shift to 1600 series numbers to reduce the risk of fraudulent or misleading calls being made in the guise of trusted financial institutions, the statement explained. TRAI has taken inputs regarding timelines from the regulators of the BFSI sector, following deliberations held during the meetings of the Joint Committee of Regulators. Based on the consultations held with them, a phase-wise implementation schedule has now been issued, the statement added.

Cloudflare Outage 2025: Why OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Perplexity And X Platform Went Down? Check Key Services Affected and Simple Fixes To Try at Home | Technology News
Cloudflare Outage 2025: Internet infrastructure and security company Cloudflare suffered a major outage on Tuesday, disrupting several popular websites for users around the world. The incident temporarily took platforms like Open AI’s ChatGPT, Perplexity, X (formerly Twitter), Canva, Google Cloud, Coinbase, Uber, Shopify, Dropbox, and others offline. Many services, however, began restoring access within a few hours. In an update posted around 9:57 a.m. ET, Cloudflare asserted that it had implemented a fix to resolve the issue, though some users might still face difficulties accessing the online dashboard. The incident comes less than a month after Amazon Web Services faced a daylong outage that disrupted many online platforms, followed by a global outage affecting Microsoft’s Azure cloud and 365 services. Add Zee News as a Preferred Source After such a widespread outage, one question naturally comes in our mind: Why did major platforms like X and OpenAI go down? Here’s a quick look at what could have caused such a massive disruption and what users can do at home when an essential app suddenly stops working. Cloudflare Outage: Services Offered Cloudflare runs one of the world’s largest content delivery networks (CDNs) and provides several essential services that most major websites depend on. It offers several essential internet services that help websites run smoothly and stay secure. It stores copies of website data on servers around the world so pages load faster for users. The platform also protects websites from DDoS attacks, where hackers try to overload a site with fake traffic. Cloudflare strengthens security through filters and firewalls that block harmful requests before they reach the original server. Adding further, it manages DNS services, which work like the internets phone book, guiding users to the correct IP addresses whenever they open a website. Why Did Cloudflare Bring Down So Many Websites? A Cloudflare spokesperson said the outage was caused by an automatically generated configuration file used to manage threat traffic. This file became much larger than expected and overloaded the system, causing a crash in the software that handles traffic for several Cloudflare services. The company noticed a spike in unusual traffic around 5:20 a.m. ET. Cloudflare also confirmed that there is no evidence of an attack or any malicious activity behind the outage. Moreover, such incidents usually point to a single point of failure in the internet infrastructure. It could be a Cloudflare outage or a problem in the content delivery network, a global DNS or routing issue, or even a breakdown in major cloud servers like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure. Cloudflare Outage: Simple Steps to Try at Home During a Global Outage Step 1: Switch internet source by trying mobile data, a different Wi Fi network, a hotspot, or another ISP since one network may not reach the affected servers. Step 2: Disable any VPN because it can break the routing path to the app or website. Step 3: Restart the app or browser and if that does not help restart your device to clear hidden system conflicts. Step 4: Clear cache on Android, delete browser history on laptops and PCs, or offload the app on iPhone because corrupt cached data can prevent loading. Step 5: Change DNS settings manually to fix connectivity issues. Use Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 or Cloudflare DNS 1.1.1.1. Step 6: If the app still fails try the web version in a browser since the web interface often works when the app does not.
