Apple To Surpass Samsung In Global Shipments For 1st Time In 14 Years | Technology News
New Delhi: Apple’s smartphone shipments have performed strongly throughout 2025, particularly in Q3, Counterpoint Research said on Wednesday, adding that the iPhone maker shipments will reach a global share of 19.4 per cent in 2025, making Apple the world’s top smartphone company for the first time since 2011. Samsung’s shipments are also expected to grow 4.6 per cent (year-on-year) and reach a global share of 18.7 per cent, yet the company will relinquish the top spot it has held for more than a decade, the report noted. iPhone shipments exceeded expectations in Q3 2025, posting a solid 9 per cent YoY growth for the quarter. The launch of the iPhone 17 series marked a shift in Apple’s usual lineup, with the new iPhone Air replacing the Plus model, accompanied by adjustments in memory configurations and pricing tiers. Add Zee News as a Preferred Source Meanwhile, global smartphone shipments are expected to grow 3.3 per cent on-year in 2025, according to the report. “Beyond the highly positive market reception for the iPhone 17 series, the key driver behind the upgraded shipment outlook lies in the replacement cycle reaching its inflection point. Consumers who purchased smartphones during the COVID-19 boom are now entering their upgrade phase,” said senior analyst Yang Wang. Furthermore, 358 million second-hand iPhones were sold between 2023 and Q2 2025. These users are also likely to upgrade to a new iPhone in the coming years. These factors will form a sizable demand base, which is expected to sustain iPhone shipment growth over the coming quarters, Wang added. According to Counterpoint’s latest weekly sell-through tracker, sales of the iPhone 17 series in the US, including the iPhone Air, during the first four weeks after launch were 12 per cent higher than those of the iPhone 16 series, excluding the iPhone 16e. Elsewhere, Apple also benefited from lower-than-expected tariff impacts globally and a truce in the US-China trade and tech war. This not only helped Apple’s supply chain and the ongoing efforts to diversify manufacturing bases, but also aggregate demand in its key growth regions — emerging markets. “Appreciating domestic currencies versus the US dollar and a resilient economic outlook boosted consumer confidence. With these structural tailwinds, Apple is well-positioned to surpass Samsung in annual shipments in 2025,” the report noted. Samsung is expected to see a decent 5 per cent shipment growth in 2025, supported by a resilient supply chain that has absorbed much of the tariff impact, it added.

Sanchar Saathi Helps Recover Over 50,000 Stolen Phones In Oct | Technology News
Sanchar Saathi Portal: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced on Tuesday that its digital safety initiative, Sanchar Saathi, has enabled the recovery of more than 50,000 lost and stolen mobile handsets across India in October this year. “This record milestone reflects unwavering commitment to secure citizens’ digital assets and public trust in technology-driven governance. The overall recovery nationwide has also crossed the 7 lakh milestone,” according to an official statement. Karnataka and Telangana have emerged as top-performing states, each crossing 1 lakh recoveries, Maharashtra follows with over 80,000. The monthly recoveries of lost and stolen mobile phones have surged by 47 per cent from June to October 2025, underlining the system’s growing efficiency and reach. With the help of this system, more than one handset is being recovered every minute across the country, the statement said. Add Zee News as a Preferred Source At the core of this achievement is a robust, indigenously developed platform, integrating automated workflows and real-time device traceability. Sanchar Saathi’s advanced technology prevents the misuse of blocked devices. When a SIM is inserted into a reported handset, the system triggers alerts to both the registered citizen and the relevant police station, enabling faster and more efficient recovery. This success is the result of seamless collaboration. Police personnel across states/UTs, DoT’s Digital Intelligence Unit (DIU) and field formations (LSAs) have worked in close coordination to ensure devices are efficiently traced and returned to their rightful owners. Regular capacity-building programmes and partnerships with state and UT police forces have been critical in strengthening on-ground response and operational excellence, the statement said. DoT has urged citizens to download Sanchar Saathi app to not only report and block their lost or stolen mobile devices, but also to cross check genuineness of new and old devices that they intend to purchase. Citizens can also report suspected fraudulent calls and messages through this app and can cross check trusted contact details of banks and financial institutions.
Google Denies Using Gmail Data To Train Gemini AI; How To Turn Off Smart Features On Desktop And Mobile App | Technology News
Gmail Data And Privacy: Google has issued a clarification after reports claimed that Gmail was using users’ emails and attachments to train its Gemini AI models. The company called these reports “misleading” and said that no policies have changed. The reports had suggested that Google updated its policy and that users would need to turn off Gmail “smart features” like spell check or order tracking to opt out. Google has clarified that the circulating interpretation is incorrect. In a statement to The Verge, Google spokesperson Jenny Thomson said, “We do not use your Gmail content to train our Gemini AI model.” This response comes after Malwarebytes alleged that the tech giant was analysing private emails and attachments to enhance features like Smart Compose. Further addressing the issue, she stated that “these reports are misleading – we have not changed anyone’s settings, Gmail Smart Features have existed for many years, and we do not use your Gmail content for training our Gemini AI model”. Add Zee News as a Preferred Source What Are Smart Features In Gmail Gmail’s smart features include tools users have used for years, such as spell check, predictive text, automatic package tracking, and calendar integration. Step 3: Go to the General tab and scroll down to the Smart features and personalisation section. Step 4: Uncheck the box next to Turn on smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet. Step 5: To disable other related features, scroll to Google Workspace smart features and click Manage Workspace smart feature settings, then turn off Smart features in Google Workspace and Smart features in other Google products. Step 6: Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page. How To Turn Off Smart Features On Mobile App Step 1: Open the Gmail app and tap the Menu icon (three lines). Step 2: Tap Settings. Step 3: Select the account you want to change. Step 4: Scroll to the General section and find Smart features. Step 5: Uncheck the box next to Smart features to disable them.
